The Le@rning Federation
is an initiative of State and Federal governments of Australia and New
Zealand. Over the period 2001-2006 the Initiative aims to develop online
interactive curriculum content specifically for Australian and New Zealand
schools. The Initiative will support teachers in enhancing student

The Night of the Bilby: This series of learning objects helps students understand the habitat, threats and survival needs of the bilby Wishball: The 'Wishball' series encourages thinking about place value. Students try to reach a target number by adding or subtracting in fewer than 20 moves. Sonic Space: City students explore and manipulate sounds, video and images to create their own compositions. Meet a scientist: The 'Meet a scientist' series of learning objects provides opportunities for students to develop a broad understanding of the science profession and of scientists as people. Who's for Dinner? allows students to examine a food Chain and food web from a billabong habitat. Support materials |
Balloon
Stampede: The 'Stampede' series of learning objects develops students'
understanding of the components of Chinese and Japanese characters.
'Balloon stampede' (Japanese) is aimed at beginner learners in years 3-4.
Fashion Design: The 'Fashion design' learning objects, set in the company OzKiwi Designs, enable students to analyse the way purpose and audience shape different community texts such as scientific reports, catalogues and magazine advertisements. Catch the thief A valuable painting has been stolen from an art gallery. Students consider a range of oral, written and visual evidence as they predict who stole a valuable painting, and support their claim with evidence. Design a neighbourhood Design a neighbourhood' is an exploration tool that enables students to interact with the direct relationship between the spatial, symbolic and written representations of a fraction less than 1. Cassowary
fractions Students are asked to select a geometric shape, perhaps a
square, an octagon or a circle, to use to form their pens.There is an
emphasis on the concept of fractions being equal parts of a whole with
visual and textual feedback provided.
